Qigong trains the individual’s bio-energy and breath. Synchronizing body and mind, improving physical, emotional, and mental health are accomplished by integrating postures, movement, breathing methods, stillness meditations, and focused intention. Benefits of qigong include improved health, prevention of illness, energetic vigor, clarity of mind, and improved longevity. Our qigong is “internal energy training”, because it contains neigong or “internal knowledge”.

The certification programs in the healing knowledge of the International Institute of Medical Qigong (IIMQ) offered by Eric Shaffer, DMQ, were based on a curriculum originally developed by Dr. Jerry Alan Johnson, the founder of the IIMQ. Dr. Johnson’s curriculum was drawn from the program at the Medical Qigong College at the Hai Dian University which was used clinically at the Xi Yuan Medical Qigong Hospital in Beijing, China.

As the Executive Director and master instructor of the IIMQ, Dr. Bernard Shannon regularly augmented and refined the IIMQ curriculum during his 7 year tenure.

Eric Shaffer, DMQ was officially promoted in April 2012 to the role of Advanced Qigong Instructor of the IIMQ curriculum by Bernard Shannon, DMQ. At this time, Eric teaches the IIMQ curriculum with no official or implied relationship to Dr. Johnson, Dr. Shannon, or the International Institute of Medical Qigong.

IIMQ curriculum training is available at Oregon Medical Qigong in several formats, including Seminar Intensives, Private Tutorial and Weekly Classes. We offer three professional course series leading to certificates in energetic healing as a Medical Qigong Practitioner (MQP), Medical Qigong Therapist (MQT), and Master of Medical Qigong (MMQ).

Weekly Qigong Self-Healing Classes offer instruction for beginning, intermediate, and advanced students. The atmosphere is warm, inclusive, and generous. Skills are offered to explore how to heal oneself with qigong, meditation, and healing contemplations.

Stress response, illness, and painful emotions often have their beginnings in fixed, negative, or maladapted thought patterns. When we grasp and pursue our thoughts, emotions, and interpretations, they proliferate into habitual patterns that cause harm and obscure the innate goodness of ourselves and others.

In the context of Medical Qigong training and self-healing, meditation is an essential skill that soothes the mind using breath, posture, and a sense of openness and acceptance towards oneself. Gently and gradually, one learns to release grasping, to let go of pursuing thoughts, stories, and experiences. We increasingly notice that meditation reveals countless opportunities to rest in the fresh and direct experience of goodness, and care for our world.
